Description
This is a hill walk taking you along the Scottish/English Border on the most northern part of the 250 mile Pennine Way. It takes you to a height of 400 metres with fine views of the Border hills.
This circular walk, on good tracks, gives a flavour of the 400-kilometre long Pennine Way which extends from Kirk Yetholm along the high Scotland-England border then down England's spine. Boots are a must.
Britain's first National Trail turned 40 years of age in 2005 but was conceived way back in 1935 when walker and writer Tom Stephenson wrote the newspaper article, 'Wanted: A Long Green Trail.'
Cross the burn to follow the Pennine Way signs by Green Humbleton. Further on St Cuthbert's Way branches off as the Pennine Way swings south along the borders, over White Law and Steer Rig. Before Black Hag the path drops to a junction. Turn right and go through the kissing gate to follow the alternative low level Pennine Way back to the start.
Access Info
A large grass parking area is reached by following the minor road from Kirk Yetholm to Halterburn (signed for the Pennine Way) for about 1.5km. Cross a cattle grid and the parking area is on the left.
