Description
On Bolfracks Estate near Aberfeldy, the remnants of an ancient pinewood have been restored to their former glory through a replanting programme designed to recreate a small section of the Caledonian forest that once covered most of the Scottish Highlands. A path network has been established to allow walkers to get a feel for this special area and enjoy the surrounding mountain scenery.
All three walks are clearly signposted and start from the car park which can be reached from the Kenmore to Amulree road (GR 784446). The shorter Larch Walk takes walkers on a gentle journey through the centre of the forest to a small summit with views of Kenmore and Loch Tay. While the slightly longer Waterfall Walk leads to the Allt a' Bhealach gorge which can be an awesome sight when the river is in spate. The longest walk starts with a climb to the summit of Kenmore Hill from where there are great views of Loch Tay, Schiehallion and Ben Lawers. The trail then continues down hill and joins a rough track at the bottom which leads back to the car park.
Kenmore Hill supports a healthy population of black grouse, a species in general decline throughout the country but which is making a spectacular comeback within the new woodland habitat. 'Bamboo droppers' are used on the deer fences to make them more visible to black grouse, as collisions with wire netting are thought to be a significant cause of mortality.
Walkers may also spot red grouse, buzzard and kestrel as well as the occasional golden eagle.

Car park and walk start point (GR 784446) is 1.5km south of Kenmore, accessed from the minor unclassified hill road between Kenmore and Amulree. This road climbs very steeply out of Kenmore village and across the moors.
