Description
Starting in Montrose this walk uses track, paths and roads to traverse half of the Montrose Basin an important Nature Reserve. The basin attracts many bird species throughout the year and the Visitor Centre on this walk is worth visiting.
Continuing from the centre along a road to Old Montrose a path leads along the South Esk and mud flats to The Bridge of Dun and Caledonian Steam Railway which runs throughout the summer from there and Brechin. The House of Dun a National Trust for Scotland building is only 1 kilometre further along this road. Suggested route from here is a taxi or bus back to Montrose as walking is on a busy road.
Access Info
No access problems, The Lurgies path is a permissive path, please obey the signs. care should be taken on the short sections of the road where a footway does not exist.

There are many Websites with information on Caledonian Railway, Montrose Basin and House of Dun. Walk 989 also starts in Montrose and follows the other river, the North Esk.
