Description
This walk takes you through the historical town of Stromness, down to a path, through crofting land, running alongside the shore line to Warebeth beach. Waders and seabirds are common.
From the starting point walk south east towards Ness Point. From here there are spectacular views over Hoy Sound to the islands of Hoy and Graemsay. Strong tides run through Hoy Sound and large standing waves make this part of coastline not to be taken lightly. From here, following the coastline on your left and a golf course on your right, walk south west before turning and heading north west. You will now find yourself walking round the Noust of Nethertown and arriving at the cemetery.
Continue further along past the cemetery and you will find the beautiful beach of Warebeth which was in times past a great place for collecting 'Tangles' or Kelp stalks which were collected and dried for export to extract useful minerals.
To return to Stromness first return to the cemetery where you will find a road leading north east. Follow the road passed Innertown and when reaching the crossroad turn right and walk back into the centre of town.
