Description
Sandwood Bay is one of the country's best beaches, no doubt assisted by the fact it is 1-2 hours' walk from the road and as such is not busy. From the crofts at Blairmore, the walk starts by crossing wild moorland (on a good path) before dropping down through the dunes to the sands themselves. Only when you reach the bay itself will you see the impressive Am Buchaille - the sea stack guarding the southern approach to the bay.
Access Info
There is a small car park opposite the start of the walk, reached by following the B801 to Kinlochbervie and then the unclassified road past Oldshoremore to Blairmore. Even the drive to get here is wonderful. Public transport is not really practical for this walk unless you use it to reach Kinlochbervie and do the walk while staying there.
