Noss Head and Sinclair and Girnigoe Castles
| Distance | Approximate Time | Height Gain | OS Map |
| 3 kms | 01:00 (hrs:mins) | 20 metres | Explorer 450: Wick & the Flow Country |
Description
Sinclair and Girnigoe Castles are amongst the most spectacularly situated in Scotland, yet this is not obvious until you reach them. The normal path direct from the car park is easy but doesn't really allow you to appreciate the best of this bit of coast. The route as described here is slightly longer, but includes a good clifftop section with views over Sinclair Bay and plenty of seabirds for company.
Access Info
From Wick follow the A99 north from the town centre and take the road signposted to Staxigoe. As you come into the village of Staxigoe there is a T-junction and signs point rightwards to Noss Head. Follow these until just before a gate near the lighthouse; there is an obvious parking area.
Additional Info
Girnigoe is the original castle here, built in the late 15th Century. Castle Sinclair was added in the early 17th century but now only ruins of each remain.
