Description
Motoring between Wester Ross and Inverness? This really delightful walk is about half-way; a good spot to break the journey, stretch the legs, have a picnic lunch and a swim. You walk a mile and a quarter along one side, cross an old scenic bridge, then return along the other side, of a wild, tumbling Highland river, the Blackwater, with its many rapids, falls, gorges and quiet swimming pools. You'll need a lot of camera film ... good family walk; no special footwear needed.
The walk begins at the old bridge over the Blackwater. The car park is large (needs to be as it's a very popular stop), has toilets, and there is a picnic area overlooking the river. Paths are good and there are many view points, swimming pools and picnic sites. At the Little Garve end you cross a long hump-backed bridge dating from mid 18th century, built as part of a road network designed. to help subdue the clans after the Jacobite rebellion. If taking photographs and you don't have many exposures left, suggest you keep the bulk of them for the second half of the walk.
Access Info
