Description
This walk, in Wester Ross, is 5 miles from Gairloch and 1 mile from Poolewe. It`s a through walk, giving marvellous views over Loch Maree.(wp!). The path is good although rough in places; boots are required. Two cars, or a pick-up arranged. Beginning near Poolewe this walk is best done (scenically) from north to south. The first half climbs to 300m through a narrow, winding pass; the second descends through more open moorland to Loch Maree (just above sea level). The loch, with its many wooded islands, is very photogenic...Many improvements have been made to the path, but it is still rough in places. Several burns have to be crossed, and the first two require care after heavy rain... There are few decision-making points en route - there is only the one path. So, many of the waymarks are in fact viewpoints.
