Bennachie - Millstone Hill walk

Description

On this route you will climb through forest before venturing up on to the open hill until you reach the top of Millstone Hill (408m). From the top, Bennachie dominates the view in the north. To the south the views are of Kemnay and the Howe of Alford. The Trail is Waymarked from the car park.

Wildlife is abundant throughout this walk with everything from Roe deers to grouse and if you are lucky you may even catch a glimpse of an osprey.

Access Info

This walk starts at the Don View Car Park. From Monymusk head north towards Blairdaff. After about 1.5 miles the Donview Car park and walks are sign posted off to the left. Turn left and follow minor road towards Keig, for about 2 miles. This road follows the river Don and is called the Lords Throat.

Additional Info

Mammals: Red squirrels and Roe deer occassionally seen.

Birds: In the woods look out for great tits, coal tits, blue tit, long tail tits, chaffinch, wood warblers, chiff chaff and many more. Wrens can often be seen on the forest floor nesting in the piles of branches.
On the open hill look out for grouse, pipits, skylarks and buzzards. If you are luck you might see an osprey.

Habitats: Walk up through coniferous forest on to the open hill which is dominated by ling heather.
