Description

View looking over to Tarbert Bay Route map

Leave Arrochar near the telephone box and follow a path which climbs steeply uphill; the gradient soon relents and the path undulates for 1 mile to reach a path junction. Here, a short detour to the right leads to the Arrochar/Tarbet Railway Station. The main route continues straight on to reach another path junction - keep straight and climb steeply uphill.

The path turns right and traverses along the hillside, passing a viewpoint to reach a footbridge across a burn. Turn right here and follow the path steeply downhill to re-cross the burn after 400 yards. Continue along the path to rejoin the outward route near to the station. Retrace your steps to return to Arrochar.

Access Info

Head to Arrochar at the head of Loch Long, park at the main car park on the south side of the village. Both Arrochar and Tarbet have bus and railway services.

Additional Info

There are viewpoints located at several points along the walk. They offer superb panoramas of the surrounding countryside and Loch Long and Loch Lomond. Rising above the sea loch of Loch Long are the Arrochar Alps.

More Info

This route is available in more detail with an associated map in the Footprint Guide to 'West Loch Lomond & the Clyde sea lochs' available from Tourist Information Centres.
