Description
Barnluasgan Interpretation Centre provides the ideal starting point for a number of walks. With trails for all abilities, it is a real gateway to exploring more of Knapdale. Both the freshwater and sea lochs of Knapdale are a haven for wildlife and this walk completely encircles Loch Coille Bharr.
From Barnluasgan this walk begins at the small gate into the field across the road from the centre. Following the red waymarked signs, take the path along the forest roads through conifers and broadleaves. On the small hill near the start of the walk you can see standing stones dating back centuries and a cross slab beside the holy well which is all that remains of an ancient chapel. Further on is the ruin of an old water powered meal mill. The route leaves the forest road and follows a narrow footpath around the southern end of the loch. As you emerge from the forest, you will see a number of new trees have been planted which are part of oakwood regeneration work. As the walk continues it joins the Achnamara road and returns to the car park.
